I realized late last night that although Santa was already building gifts for the kids, we had completely forgotten to purchase any. And, as the kids can now read the gift tags, off to the toy store went I. As it’s Day 19 of our photo & video Advent Challenge, I took some photos to commemorate the event.
Geppetto’s Toy Box is one of those establishments that engenders the love and devotion of all the locals. They carry high quality toys, make knowledgeable recommendations, and best of all, will hold on to your purchases until just before Christmas. This way the kids are surprised with a full load of gifts under the tree on Christmas morning.
This is Geppetto’s as seen from their beautiful storefront window:
Yay, toys
Here’s Eric, the owner of Geppetto’s amidst his toys:
taken on the iPhone
I took this photo on the iPhone amidst the holiday rush. Thanks for standing still for a moment, Eric. As this is a photography blog, let’s get down to the critique. The colors look a bit drab. So I played with it using PS Mobile (Photoshop for the iPhone):

I clicked the vibrant button in PS-mobile and voila, orange-Eric. Not to my liking, although the store certainly looks a lot brighter. PS-mobile doesn’t give any options with vibrant; it’s on or off. So, I brought it into Photoshop CS4 and played with the vibrancy there.

First I created a levels adjustment layer and clicked the auto button. I then boosted the vibrancy about 50%. Vibrancy in PS protects skin tones while boosting the other colors. The colors still look brighter in the store, but Eric doesn’t look orange. Much better. Any one of these photos would be fine to email, but I prefer the fine-tuning capabilities and look of vibrancy in full Photoshop. How was your shopping and photography experience today?
