You’re going on vacation and want to be sure to capture memories of the trip. What do you bring?

At a minimum make sure to bring the following:

  • digital point and shoot camera with video function
  • extra camera batteries
  • extra flash cards
  • battery chargers

If you’re going to a foreign country don’t forget a power converter for the battery charger.

Dont forget your battery charger

A battery charger is a must-have on any trip

The point and shoot camera will allow you to capture both photos and video without lugging around a lot of extra equipment.  Just remember, depending on your camera, you may be limited to short video clips or very low resolution video.

Spare batteries are a necessity, especially if you have a proprietary battery from your camera manufacturer.

Always check the latest guidelines here before bringing batteries on an airplane. There is currently no restriction on AA batteries. Spare lithium batteries may only be packed in your carry-on luggage.

Extra flash cards are a must, especially if you have your camera set to take photos at the highest resolution. Don’t assume flash cards will be convenient to purchase at your destination.

Personally, I also bring a dedicated camcorder because I prefer the quality of video from the camcorder.  Bringing the camcorder means you’ll also need spare batteries, charger and tapes or flash cards (depending on what your camcorder uses).

Another useful thing to bring is a list of shots you don’t want to miss.  It sounds obvious, but having this handy list in your camera bag can prevent you from forgetting that important photo of Great-Grandma Jane with all her namesakes at the busy family reunion.
