So how are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions? I decided to throw out a new challenge to you. Here’s how it works. Send in a photo or video clip of your goal at the start, along with a brief explanation. Then send us an update as you reach a new milestone.
See that photo up above? That’s my first goal. I intend to read 5 non-fiction or classic books this year. Not just read them, but really comprehend them by taking notes. I kind of cheated a bit because I’ve already read the top book and I’m halfway through reading it again.
When I complete one book, I’ll post a photo of the stack of four books. After that it’ll probably take me awhile. I’ve been on that second book for the last two years. Dare I dream?
Here’s my next goal:
I sure hope I reach this goal by Sunday. I entered myself in a local skate competition just for the heck of it. I may even win (if no one else enters).
All kidding aside, tracking your progress on your goals helps give you a sense of accomplishment and pride. Tracking them through photos and video really makes you own those accomplishments. It’s a great way to share your life with family and friends as well.
One thing I learned with goals is to make sure it’s positive and measurable. Saying you’re going to lose weight is (a) saying that you’re currently fat and (b) not measurable. Saying that you’re going to work out 100 times next year is a measurable, positive goal.
Let’s turn those measurable milestones into a memorable photo or video of your life. Telling your family that you’re trying to learn to belly dance is one thing. Wiggling your hips on a video that you post to Facebook makes it a whole lot more real: to them and you. So, wiggle your hips (or whatever shows your goal) this week, and then when you reach your first milestone, post an update. Have a goal you’d like to share? Send a link to blog@my-photo-video.com with your story and accompanying photos or video clips.
