Welcome back. I trust you all had a fantastic New Year’s holiday. Mine involved Baileys and coffee, as seen above. Let’s start the New Year off by actually doing something with the photos and video from our advent project. Today’s step will be to storyboard the media.
Storyboarding involves gathering your media together into a story. You want to gather the photo and video clip from each day (or as many as you actually took) as well as some music selections. Put all this media into one folder. If you have mementos you want to include, scan those and put them in the folder as well.
While you’re busy gathering that, here’s a photo from our Christmas celebration. Grandpa was underwhelmed by the ceremonial opening of presents:
snoozin' in a winter wonderland
This photo will definitely be included on Day 25. Ok, let’s get back to the project. First let’s define the scope, or story we want to tell. In my case, I will include December 1st through the 31st.
Most important thing when doing any project is organization. I like to have one folder for each project. Within that folder I include subfolders for:
- photos
- video
- music
- graphics (if I include any custom graphics)
- project files for the movie file, DVD menu, disc label, and anything else associated with the project
There are different schools of thought on this. I copy all the music to this folder, even if I have it someplace else on the hard drive, because if I ever move the project to another computer or wish to back it up, it’s all in one folder.
Ok, this is making my head spin; time to take a break to laugh at a photo from New Year’s. Here’s the gourmet meal consumed by the children on New Year’s Eve:
DiGiorno and m&m's
This will make for a good Day 31 in our movie. The gourmet meal was, of course, followed up with chocolate cake and ice cream. There might have been some gummy worms on the menu as well.
The grown-ups ate in the other room like civilized people:

Spend the next couple of days gathering your photos, video clips and music. When selecting music, try to keep the mood of the movie in mind. If whimsical, keep the music light. Personally, I’ll probably go with jazz versions of Christmas classics for this project. Try not to select music which will get people thinking of their own memories. You want people to view the movie, not listening to popular lyrics. Read more on the subject here.
On Thursday we’ll look at actually putting this project together with the music, titles and captions to tell your Advent story.

The author of http://www.my-photo-video.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: No matter how well rehearsed an important speech is, you will forget it two seconds before you need to present it. This is especially true when speaking to the opposite sex. Thanks for the info.
