Ok, so you just got this cool new camera. Let’s get to know it better.
First thing you always want to do when you get a new toy (like a camera or even a dishwasher!) is read the instructions. The manufacturer wrote these to tell you the most important things about how to use your new toy.
In today’s lesson we’re going to learn how to hold the camera.
Look at where the flash is on the camera. Get a grip on the camera so that it feels comfortable. Look at where your fingers are. Make sure they’re not covering the flash or lens.
Now hold the camera vertically, like you are taking a close-up photo of someone standing. Again, make sure your fingers don’t cover the flash or lens.
Try not to shake the camera as you press the shutter button.
For your first assignment you are going to get comfortable with taking photos both landscape (horizontally) and portrait (vertically).
- Go out this weekend and take photos both portrait and landscape.
- Take some with flash and without.
- Review the photos on your camera’s LCD screen to get a feel for your photos.
